We know what we eat influences our health and we do well to maintain a healthy diet, but unfortunately not all of us are following the same diet. Sleep helps in the control of hormones such as estrogen, thyroid, cortisol, leptin, growth hormone and testosterone. Their are even studies that show the quality of sleep is important. People who were able to go into rem sleep for longer periods then those who couldn’t slimmed down a little bit more.
Get Plenty Of Vitamin D
We have long understood that vitamin D deficiency is a key risk factor for osteoporosis. Our skin is less strong, wrinkles can appear, we get tired easily, and we generally feel cold. Vitamin D can help us fight our bones from getting weak and brittle and make them stronger. If you couldn’t tell orange juice is an great source of vitamin D. Also foods like tuna, salmon, and fatty fishes. There is also things like cereals fortified with vitamin D. My favorite source of vitamin D is OJ fortified with vitamin D. But things like cheese and milk also come in the fortified variety.
Reduce Intake Of Alcohol And Reduce Calories
Alcohol consumption has been linked to weight gain. As we age, our liver starts making alcohol and in turn slows down our metabolism to reduce the amount of calories consumed. This slows down fat burns even more. Drinking at least 3 ounces of wine a week helps. I have also touched on this in a previous blog because there are ton of case studies and articles that show a direct link how alcohol works against your sliming down goals. Reducing calories does not mean skipping meals or starving yourself. Eating the right foods is crucial here. A 1oz. candy bar may have 150 calories. While 6oz of blueberries have about 100 calories. That’s 6 times the amount of the candy bar and IF you decide to eat all the blueberries you are still at less calories than the one measly candy bar. So the choice of what you eat is important here. Effective calorie cutting should not make you feel fatigued or sluggish at all.
Avoid Stressors That Cause Depression
When we are depressed we tend to drink more, eat more and go into lockdown mode, resulting in increased calorie intake. Increased stress on the other hand leads to depression and increases the risk of becoming obese. The best way to manage anxiety is to stay calm and enjoy life. I know this is easier said then done. I definitely struggle with this one but I kind of have a trick that helps me. How you relax is totally up to you. Everyone has their thing, different hobbies and interests right? Well for me, on those grey tough days, I think of a time I was happy. Sounds simple but there is more to it. I think of a time when I was happy and smiling for whatever reason and I try to emulate what I was feeling in that moment now. Its almost never the same memory for me but it is always the same feeling I try to mimic. Kind of like when you have seen something so funny that anytime you think of it you at least crack a smile. Same concept here. This simple trick has helped me time and time again.
Eat More Carbohydrates and Prefer Fatty Carbs
Carbohydrates are the main source of food for our bodies and they also play an important role in weight loss. They provide energy, nutrients and glucose which helps burn more calories. An ideal carbohydrate should have less fiber, potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorous and polyphenols (found in berries). Its against the grain today to tell people to consume carbs. But their are “good carbs” and they play an essential roll when it comes to slimming down.
